What is an A1 certificate?
The A1 certificate confirms that the social security regulations of your country of residence also apply to you during your posting. This ensures that you do not have to pay social security contributions in the country of destination.
Who needs an A1 certificate?
An A1 certificate is required for all business trips within the EU and EFTA states as well as for trips to states with which a social security agreement exists (= convention states), regardless of the type and duration of the activity.
How long does it take for the A1 certificate to be issued?
The processing time varies and depends on the respective health insurance company. It can take anywhere from a few days to several weeks for the certificate to be issued. In case of inspections, you can also submit the A1 application for the posting as an alternative.
What are the consequences of not having an A1 certificate?
The absence of an A1 certificate can lead to serious consequences, such as work suspensions, denial of access to the worksite or even fines.
Who checks the A1 certificate in the country of destination?
The A1 certificate can be checked by the competent authorities in the destination country, in particular during border controls and labor inspections.
