Mechanical Design Engineer

Our client is a century-old, family-owned German engineering group — a global leader in high-tech filling, processing and packaging machinery for the pharmaceutical/biotech, consumer, nonwovens and life-science industries. With approximately 3,000 employees across 20+ locations worldwide and an export share above 85%, they are investing significantly in their Pune engineering centre to bring technical capability closer to fast-growing Asian and global markets.

You will independently design and develop pharmaceutical freeze-drying (lyophilization) systems, covering the full design lifecycle from concept through production drawings, supplier qualification and design reviews. The scope includes pressure/vacuum vessels, CIP systems, hydraulics, temperature-control systems and structural frameworks. Reports to the Engineering Director or Group Leader.

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Mechatronics.
• Proficiency in 3D CAD systems (Creo Elements, HiCAD), production drawings and BOM creation. Creo Elements is mandatory for this role.
• Design experience with pressure and/or vacuum vessels and refrigeration or temperature-control systems.
• Ability to independently create P&IDs, calculation documents and technical reports.
• Experience with SAP for drawing and BOM management.
• Working knowledge of relevant compliance standards: ASME/PED for pressure vessels and a foundational understanding of pharma/GMP requirements.
• Proficiency in English (written and spoken).

• Prior exposure to freeze-dryer or lyophilizer systems — candidates who have worked on complex thermal/vacuum systems in pharmaceutical environments will find this a strong differentiator.
• Knowledge of CIP (Clean-in-Place) and hydraulic system design.
• Experience conducting acceptance tests at supplier sites and incoming goods inspections.
• Background in a pharma OEM or machinery manufacturer.
